Sunset District Renovation.

You know what I love about Dwell? Not only does it display some of the most creative and beautiful homes in the world, it also inspires. This renovation in the Sunset District of San Fran has to be one the best renovations I have seen in quite a while. If you’ve every been to San Francisco you have seen homes such as this. The one-car garage filled to the gill with junk. Why not use this space creatively and productively. That’s exactly what happened here.

Shearwater: ‘Hidden Lakes’

I love Shearwater. There I said it. Their albums are beautiful and Rook has to be one of my favorite albums to work by. Now they have a new release coming out next week called The Golden Archipelago. They also have a video out for one of the new tracks ‘Hidden Lakes.’ Just like their albums, this video is beautifully shot and is just as magical as, I’m sure, the album it’s from. As you can tell, I love Shearwater.

CODEORGAN.

Talk about something ingenious. Check out CODEORGAN. This clever little app uses an algorithm to analyze the body content of the URL you enter, removes all characters not associated with musical scale and analyzes the remaining to find the right note, which synthesizer, and finally the drumloop. Absolutely killer time-sucking app.

Goodbye Conan. Hello…new logo.

Well now that the dust has settled from the ‘Late Night Wars,’ the rebuilding of the Jay Leno empire on The Tonight Show has commenced. Scheduled to make his return on March 1st ,the late night crew has to transform the Conan set to the Leno set in less than two weeks. To get things started they have a new logo. My reaction? Eh. I mean I can appreciate the clean approach and all but…eh. Great article on the branding and logo at idsgn. Check it out here.

AIGA Design Archives.

I’ve already spent so much time here. Not really time wasted but quality, creative time. AIGA has relaunched their Design Archives. Enjoy!

Charlotte Gainsbourg.

Charlotte Gainsbourg (w/Beck) – Heaven Can Wait

When you hear about an actor or actress making an album, typically you shiver because there have been some major disasters. I know Don Johnson and Shaq come to mind.

But once and while there is a diamond in the rough. I thought Scarlett Johannsen touched on it with her two albums. But Charlotte Gainsbourg is actually truly talented, both in film and musically. I finally listened to her album IRM after hearing good things and I must say, I’m impressed. It’s a beautiful album and very well-crafted. Plus, when you have a track with Beck you know things are gonna be good.

Vancouver 2010 Graphic Identity.

Well the Vancouver 2010 Winter Olympics are underway amidst tragedy and malfunctioning cauldrons. It has been great watching the biathlons and skiing thus far. I am not a figure skating fan so I’ll be skipping most of that. While sport is the name of the game (pardon the pun) for the Olympics, my eye has been drawn to the phenomenal design on the backsplashes and bibs. The identity for this Olympics is clean with great textures and use of cool color hues. Not too mention the illustrations for each sport are great.

There are other cool design elements throughout the Olympics and Fast Company has a slideshow up of some of them. Among some of the best are the podiums, which are made from 200 pieces of computer cut lumber, and the mascots from Vancouver design firm Meomi. Now if they would just hire this team to take care of the London summer games that would be awesome. After seeing the logo, they need the help.

Ghostly Essentials – Rarities One

Ghostly Esstentials Rarities One

Ghostly International has always been one of my favorite places to go for inspiration. Whether I am looking for some chill music to listen to while I work or to see what cool apparel designs they have, they are always consistently one of the best. Recently they released Ghostly Essentials Rarities One, a free collection of a handful of great tracks. Perfect to work to or to just sit back, relax and listen. You can download it for free here.

Bonnaroo 2010 lineup FINALLY unveiled.

Bonnaroo 2010 Lineup

What happened yesterday is usually one of the most exciting times of the year for me. It is the day they announce the initial lineup for the Bonnaroo Music & Arts Festival. I love this festival. Great lineups. Great location. Great atmosphere. Yesterday though, was kinda lame. Throughout the day they would announce the lineup one artist a time, every six minutes, on the Bonnaroo MySpace page with some Flash animation that was cool in the beginning but then gave way to annoyance later on. After all was said and done, there were some gems in there. Stevie Wonder, Jeff Beck, Weezer, The Flaming Lips. But when the lineup was cleaned up and everything was in place. This unfortunately was the most underwhelming Bonnaroo lineup so far. Nothing in there, except the aforementioned, would cause me to shell out $250 for a ticket. Amidst all the rumors it was expected that Roger Waters would be performing The Wall. THAT would cause me to buy a ticket automatically. As I waited and waited, it never came. Maybe they are holding off until later to announce him but they are playing their cards all wrong. Tickets went on sale yesterday and I can’t see them selling a ton because of this initial card. Coachella, so far, has them beat, big time.

I’m hoping my favorite festival has some big guns to pull out. I am a ‘Roo veteran (The first Roo in 2001, 2007, 2008) and I live for going there but so far, it’s a no go. Please change my mind Bonnaroo Gods. I beg of you.
