Of course I had to let my first post back from a little getaway be a green home. This designer couple took a run down lot and building and flipped it eco-style. The home even includes a bathtub poured to fit his wife’s body.

Ah yes. Back from a little mini getaway with the family. Back to the grind.
Wow. Okay, wow. I’ll try not to show any bias here for one of my favorite bands but the new track and video from Band of Horses for their song “Compliments” is outstanding. Have a look, and listen, for yourselves and look for their new album “Infinite Arms” coming out May 18th.
I’ve noticed this on a few commercials here and there but I can’t find any official word on it, but is Sears slowly incorporating a new logo and branding into their advertisements. I’ve only seen it on clothing commercials. The current logo is being used on the optical and, of course, hardware commercials but this new logo is popping up more often. I like it. It’s clean, simple, modern. Anyone else notice this?
I really dig this video Bruce Weber did for the folks at Dwell. Though it does make me long for summer (just a couple months away!), I still feel like I’m watching one big moving Calvin Klein advertisement with the Good Looking People Club.
“More than most, Jason Amm’s work as Solvent embodies the original ethos of the oft-misused “synth-pop” tag: that is, pop music built lovingly, reverently, meticulously out of the buzz and hum of analogue synthesizers.
Solvent’s newest full-length on Ghostly International—his first in nearly six years—is called Subject to Shift, and its title reflects the changing tone of Amm’s music. On Subject to Shift, the “cute, happy robots” of 2004’s Apples & Synthesizers are few and far between, and in their place is a mix of dystopian, acid-tinged futurism and bittersweet romantic ache.
“Loss for Words” , the first single from Subject to Shift, arrives on April 20th on Ghostly International. “Loss for Words” is a sterling example of what happens when classic pop songwriting meets analogue circuitry, boasting buzzing synths, crisply understated drum programming, and an air of gentle melancholy. the track is also a significant step forward for Amm, as his singing has matured into a clear, organic tenor and sweet orchestral sings dominate the song’s climax. “Loss for Words” is a robotic ballad with a human heart.”
Great video by the new band Oceanship featuring some great illustrations by Ofir Sasson. Enjoy!
Sorry for the lack of posts recently. Business is really picking up and I am up to my ears in new and exciting projects. This is both good and bad. Good that I have business, bad that I neglect other things of interest, such as LOUPE.
Tired of sending the same old card or postcard? Recently I came across PostCarden. A postcard that is also a mini-garden! This is such a clever idea that I have to get some to send out. Maybe in celebration of Spring.
Hands down my most anticipated album this year is the new Broken Social Scene album Forgiveness Rock Record that is due to be released May 4th. They have already released one killer track “World Sick” and now they have released two more for your streaming pleasure, “Forced to Love” and “All to All.” From the sound of these three tracks, the hype is very much deserved. This album is destined to be my summer soundtrack. You can listen to the tracks here.
